Mistakes are real, and they happen daily. They come in numerous forms, most times in the decisions we make.
Were there times you did certain things, that you prayed the earth opens up and swallows you?
For instance, on a Sunday morning, it’s your turn as an instrumentalist to play a solo for a praise song. The Choristers have sung brilliantly well. The congregation was all connected and dancing and Boom! You played off the beat.
Deep in your mind, you know you what have done. It’s as if everything paused and the whole congregation looked at you. Other instrumentalists tried filling in yet it couldn’t match up to the beat any more. You are so far beyond the beat!
Funny enough, this may mean nothing to you. To the one who experiences this, it is something big. This should help you understand the way you treat others who make mistakes. Your response at such times matters.
Ways to appreciate your mistakes
Learn from them
One way we appreciate our mistakes is to learn from them. Get a lesson from them to avoid making such later on when the consequences may be beyond your imaginations.
There are times in life where some mistakes are beyond excuses. Certain things might have been accepted before but won’t be later on. This cuts across every sphere of one’s life. Just think about it. Be it spiritual, financial, educational, emotional it cuts across all areas.
That’s a place where growth comes in. Sometimes, certain mistakes are made now to avoid making them in bigger choices. Learn from them and trust God to move on.
Remember your feelings attached to them
Sometimes we forget we have been victims of certain mistakes in the past. When we see others do the same or different we are quick to condemn and humiliate them forgetting who we were in the past.
Remembering how embarrassing it was should help you in how you relate to people who make mistakes. This does not mean that you should condone the act. Instead, it helps in passing your message across.
Teach them out
Mistakes can be powerful tools if wielded well. We can learn from the mistakes of others and so can people learn from ours.
At this point, carefulness is expected. Some people are desperate that after knowing you made a mistake they use it against you. Trust the Holy Spirit to help you know when you should and should not share them.
You never can tell in the process of sharing you can even learn more than what you imagined.
Avoid making them again
At this point, your discipline is not enough to avoid making mistakes. God is a present help in times like this.
1 Samuel 2:9
He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
Trust God to help you. Your strength is not enough to prevent or avoid making mistakes. Jesus passed through all faces of life and He understands what it is to be at such states. Seeking His help through the Holy Spirit will go a long way to help.
So what are you waiting for? Stop condemning yourself. Rebuke the act and see beyond excuses. Take responsibility and become better. Learn from others and choose not to keep making those mistakes. God’s power is at work in you.
Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning.

This a new perspective to mistakes. Mistake itself has advantages. Not advantages really but attached lessons. It’s not that mistakes are to be consciously made, but since they are bound to happen, lessons should be drawn from them. Thanks for sharing this.

I really liked the part of how we react when others make mistakes that we had been victims of at some point..
Usually quick to judge rather than correcting in love.
